  • Like many guys, I love watches. I have many, many watches. Some expensive and some not so expensive. Point is, I can’t walk past a watch counter without at least stopping and looking.

I bought this Croton divers watch at a sporting goods store because it was on sale. Regular $250, on sale for what was basically an unbelievable price. I asked what the catch was… I asked if I came back the day after the sale if they’d actually be selling the watch for $250… I asked if anyone had ever actually paid $250… and so on. I couldn’t believe a decent watch could be legitimately discounted so much. Apparently, that’s exactly what was going on.

After buying this Croton watch on the spot, I took it home and did some research on the Croton watch company. It seems they are a very respected maker of fine watches that just happen to make watches ranging in price from about $200 to $5,000. The lesser priced ones often selling on-line or discounted in stores to the tune of about $60-$100. The more expensive ones selling from a discounted base of about $600 on up into the thousands.

This watch looks great, feels great and after having for a few months is holding up like a true performer. Again, I own many sport, dress and diver watches. The cheap ones start to get scratched and literally fall apart rather quickly. The more expensive ones are notably more durable in every way. The crystals don’t scratch as easily, the bands don’t fall apart or break, and so on. This Croton seems to be a fine watch at $250 and an absolute no-brainer (steal) for the price I paid!

    Pros:

    - Looks great, feels great (heavy and big)

    - Indestructible crystal face

    - 20 ATM water resistant (660 ft. for novice divers like myself!!!)

    - True tachymeter ring (diving device measuring depth and time on the outer ring)

    Cons:

    - None at this price

FYI: My most expensive watch is a $2,300 Tissot chronograph dress watch, for which I paid $1,600. I’ve also got a Citizen Dive Master for which I paid $700 and then a slew of other watches on down to the sub-$100 price range. Currently, the Croton is my daily driver.
