Empowering Mobile Phone Users to Create and Publish News Content : Citizen Journalism
ByNews reporters cannot get everywhere. True, real and interesting news can be obtained and shared with the world only by empowering by-standers and eye-witnesses to create and publish news, as it happens.
We have seen multiple instances of citizen journalism, such as Michael Richards racist comments on YouTube or Saddam Hussein’s execution in Iraq, where someone, who happened to be there, was able to take a picture or video with his/her mobile phone and share it online to create viral sensation.
InaBin.com provides a single venue to promote “citizen journalism” through mobile phone users. “In-A-Bin”, which stands for, “It’s News, Again, Before It’s News”, allows anyone with a mobile phone to publish news instantly, wherever they are and whenever they want, at the click of a button. It’s plain, simple, citizen journalism. It’s live news. It’s what’s happening right now. It’s a picture or a video submitted by a bystander when she observes a newsworthy event and breaks the news right away by publishing it from anywhere in the world!
The process is fairly simple. Take a picture or video with your mobile phone, write a short text message describing your news and email your picture/video together with your message to an email address (in [at] inabin.com). To prevent spam, InaBin.com requires everyone to make sure the text message begins with 000 and ends with 999 (otherwise it will be discarded). An image or video attachment is also required together with the text message.
InaBin.com really hopes to take citizen journalism to the next level.
